Applying for a custom-made product is simple. Once your Project Request Form is received it won’t be long before you receive a response.

Your completed Project Request Form will be discussed at our Project Referral Committee and one of the following decisions will be made:

    • We will accept the project and you will receive an email shortly after. To ensure that the most pressing cases are addressed soonest, each project is given a priority score, primarily based on urgency of need. Once the project reaches the top of our waiting list, we will contact you to arrange an assessment appointment.
    • We will ask you for more information to help us decide whether to accept the project. This may involve meeting the relevant people to help us understand what is needed.
    • Or we may inform you that we cannot help on this occasion and will explain why. We will always endeavour to find you other possible sources of help.

Once the project is accepted and you reach the top of our waiting list, the first stage of making a custom-made item is to carry out a thorough assessment. This involves the child, their family and the health, social care or education professionals who work with them.

Our team will work closely with you, to ensure that the resulting equipment is a success. We are happy to work with carers and teachers, as well as Occupational, Speech and Language Therapists, Physiotherapists and other medical experts and are happy to receive input throughout the design process.

Each young person is directly involved in the design of their own custom solution. Their abilities, requirements, frustrations and design preferences are all carefully taken into consideration.

The subsequent design process often requires a huge range of different skills – not just from our own team but from outside resources.  We often create trial versions, which need careful testing to ensure that the finished product will be functional, durable and as attractive as possible. We also undertake a thorough risk assessment to ensure it is safe, appropriate and effective.

After further assessment visits the final product is manufactured by our engineers working at our well-equipped workshops in Epsom.

The completed equipment is then delivered and we remain available to carry out any necessary maintenance during the lifetime of the product.
