With our team of dedicated volunteers we can open up more possibilities for children and young people with disabilities.
Could you help MERU?
Your time and skills are invaluable. Our volunteers save us over £100,000 every year, and volunteer projects account for around a third of our total output. You really could make a huge difference.
Volunteers work closely with our small, friendly staff team, enhancing and developing the work we do in all areas of the charity.
Could you be one of our valued volunteers?
- Have you got practical workshop skills or manufacturing experience?
- Have you got product design or engineering skills?
- Have you got administrative, database or book-keeping experience?
- Have you got upholstery skills?
…then we have some opportunities that might interest you.
“I volunteered for MERU to give me the opportunity to do some hands on work and give me a welcome change from my day job as a Mechanical Engineer for McLaren Racing.
It’s great to know that a few hours of your time each week is spent producing products which will make a change to someone’s life for the better.
I would recommend that everyone give it a go as there is so much variety in the tasks that need doing you are sure to find something to suit. I have now also decided to run the Virgin London Marathon in order to raise some extra funding!”Bernie, Workshop Team Volunteer

Opportunities
Our fantastic volunteers support us to dramatically increase the number of custom and ready-made products we design, manufacture and sell each year.
We have volunteering opportunities that will suit all kinds of different skill sets, as well as varying time commitments. We aim to accommodate our volunteers as much as possible, whilst ensuring that your donated time increases our productivity.
The Workshop Team
What: Our workshop team runs every Tuesday and Wednesday between 9am-4.30pm to make batches of MERU ready-made products, which we sell in our online shop to help fund our vital work.
We have around a dozen different products and jobs including assembly, soldering, plastic moulding, silicon moulding, lathe and mill work as well as packaging.
Everyone gets a chance to try the different processes but you may like to become a specialist in one of our product lines and help train other volunteers or students. You can also input into the design and production processes improving our products and manufacturing efficiency.
Why: Sales of our ready-made products have increased by 60% this year, so we really need your help to keep up with demand.
Who: This is ideal for anyone who likes to make things, and we would particularly welcome people from industrial design, manufacturing and electronics backgrounds. We are also looking for an engineer who has experience in using CNC Machines.
When: Tuesday and Wednesdays from 9.00-4.30 pm
Where: At our workshops in Epsom.
We would require a regular, reliable minimum commitment of one day a week for a minimum of three months.
“Volunteering with the Workshop Team is great because it’s nice to do something totally different with a great bunch of people. Through making the variety of products I have also gained a wide range of really useful practical skills. It’s great to get so much back while making the products that improve so many lives.” Jo from AirProducts, Workshop Team Volunteer
